Established in 2005, White Desert is the only luxury operator offering trips to Antarctica's remote interior, not accessible by sea. For just 11 weeks a year, fly Business Class, stay in heated en-suite accommodation, enjoy fine dining and visit the South Pole and Emperor penguins on the 7th Continent.

Direct flights from Cape Town by Airbus A340

to our private blue-ice runway.

only 12 guests at a time.

Be one of the few visitors per year to the South Pole and Atka Bay's famous Emperor penguins.

Each day is filled with exhilarating activities like ice climbing, abseiling, glacier hikes and blue ice tunnels — all under the guidance of world's most qualified high mountain guides. A doctor and physio at each camp offer treatment and massages along with sauna and a wellness dome. Nearly all ages and all fitness levels are welcome, allowing guests to conquer personal challenges or simply reflect in the most remote place left on the planet.....

OUR CAMPS

Echo Base

Whichaway Camp

Surrounded by some of the planet’s most spectacular scenery, Echo’s distinctive pods look more suited to a colony on Mars. Inspired by astronauts and used by explorers, each of the six heated sleeping pods feature floor-to-ceiling windows. There is no more dramatic landscape to wake up to, as each room overlooks the lunar-like vistas beyond.

While most of Antarctica is covered in ice, Whichaway is on a rare rocky outcrop encircled by an enormous cliff of iridescent blue ice and a seasonal lake oasis. The six heated pods are warm and elegant, while the communal spaces provide the perfect base for meals, cocktail hours, and relaxation between activities.

The rest of the camp includes The Cosmos: the reception, lounge, library and dining rooms. These form the ideal space to enjoy meals, cocktails and the Anthony James art installation. An experienced team of chefs, hosts and guides take care of every detail, allowing guests to enjoy their adventure.

The Compass — three centralised pods that make up the reception, lounge and dining room — make up the camp. The seasoned chefs, hosts and guides at this original camp know how to look after guests perfectly, allowing them to focus on tackling each activity and moment of relaxation each day.

“The expression 'Once-in-a-lifetime experience' is overused, yet entirely appropriate when describing a trip to Antarctica with White Desert. The guides are all accomplished mountaineers and explorers who successfully create a sense of adventure while ensuring everyone’s safety. You leave the great Southern land with a deep sense of connection and a determination to return.”
