Established in 2005 by record-breaking polar explorers, husband-and-wife duo Patrick and Robyn Woodhead, White Desert Antarctica operates luxury trips to the interior of Antarctica, flying 36 guests at a time from its home base in Cape Town on a private charter for once-in-a-lifetime experiences including visiting the South Pole, summiting an unclimbed mountain, photographing a colony of 28,000 emperor penguins, climbing, trekking, and exploring ice tunnels.
Operating out of two luxury camps Echo and Whichaway, the company is already recognised as a pioneer in providing breath-taking eco-experiences in a challenging environment. The ambition is to maintain exceptional levels of service and hospitality, particularly the guest facing aspect to always ensure a premium luxury experience. White Desert not only provides tourism but also services the Antarctic science community.
Primary Responsibilities
Joining seasonally, the team as a Cabin Crew the Contractor will be required to support the In – Flight Services Co-ordinator, for a period between 1 Sep 2023 until 28 Feb 2024.
Responsible for ensuring an improved customer satisfaction. Duties will include preforming safety checks, attending pre-flight briefings, demonstrating safety routines and overall well-being of guests on board.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensures all operational safety, security and health and safety responsibilities are performed to the highest standards in accordance with Company Operations Manual, thus ensuring compliance with Regulators, HiFly requirements and all other relevant legislation
- Reports safety related issues through correct channels and is proactive in adopting the White Dessert / HiFly “Safety” culture
- Always maintain safety compliance with Safety and Security Procedures training
- Deliver world-class service excellence in line with our service standards and behaviours
- Ensure compliance with all corporate policies and procedures in accordance with relevant legislation
- As part of the cabin crew team ensure that guests experience a clean, safe, and professional cabin appearance always which may include preparing the passenger cabin for departure in addition to security checks

Candidate specifications competencies:
- To be aged 18 or over at time of application
- Fluent in both spoken and written English
- Previous customer service, first class service experience (Desirable)
- Medically fit to meet regulatory requirements. Able to hold / obtain all required passes and documents (such as the ability to obtain and retain an airside pass)
- Be the holder of a valid EASA cabin crew license or be able to obtain an EASA cabin crew license
- Hold a valid passport (with minimum 12 months before expiry date) with unrestricted right work and travel globally
- To undergo Criminal Record Check in the previous five years and be able to provide satisfactory references for the last five years
- Be willing and able to work shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7days a week, 365 days a year for your entire career
- Be willing and able to spend periods of time away from home and conduct stand-by duties in the proximity of your airport base

- To wear the White Desert uniform to the required standard with no visible tattoos or body piercings. Tattoos or body piercings must never be visible on the body or through uniform clothing and MUST be able to be covered. Only tattoos that can be reasonably covered up are permitted. Plasters and bandages must not be used
Required skills:
- Must be medically and physically fit to meet regulatory and role requirements
- To be required height
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitations (CPR) Be able to kneel astride a person within the space restriction, apply pressure through both arms to a depth of 5-6 cm, for 30 compressions for a period of 2 minutes minimum
- You are able to lift weight of 9kg(20lb) from a height of 195cm (78”), this is the equivalent of lifting a medical kit from an aircraft overhead locker
- You are able to thread water whilst fitting a life jacket and pull your own body weight out of the water and into a life raft using the hand holds on the side of the raft
- You are able to pull a fully laden trolley weighing up to 86kg and on an incline of up to 3 degrees
- You are able to fit into an aircraft jump seat harness without a seatbelt extension
- Stand in an area of 51cmx51cm and not impede the route past you, this is to enable a rapid aircraft evacuation
- You are able to swim 50m followed by treading water for 3 minutes and be able to assist people in water
- You are able to lift a weight up to 28kg. This is so that you are able to lift an emergency overwing window and quickly exit the aircraft
- You feel confident working with heights e.g. you need to be able to descend an aircraft escape slide 9metres above the ground
- To be prepared to remove any headwear in the event of an emergency in order to be able to pull on an emergency smoke hood in the required time
