White Desert Foundation
IMPACT AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD
For more than 20 years, White Desert has operated in Antarctica with an unmatched commitment to minimising environmental impact. Building on this experience, the White Desert Foundation exists to support pioneering climate-related science, Blue Carbon habitat restoration projects, and global education around the critical role Antarctica plays in the Earth’s climate system.
By leveraging our unique access to the Antarctic interior, we enable research that deepens understanding of the planet’s changing climate while supporting initiatives that reduce carbon emissions and restore fragile ecosystems. Through the Foundation, innovation is translated into action, helping protect some of the world’s most vulnerable environments.
Our work is focused across 3 core areas:
We provide logistical and operational support to scientists conducting field research in Antarctica, helping unlock critical insights into the rapidly changing polar environment and its global implications.
We invest in Blue Carbon projects that restore coastal habitats such as Salt Marshes and Peat Wetlands. These ecosystems can sequester carbon significantly more effectively than rainforests, strengthening nature’s capacity to mitigate climate change.
We create opportunities for deeper understanding by connecting people with Antarctica’s history, geography and current scientific research. Through immersive educational experiences, we help illuminate how the continent is changing, why it matters, and how those changes resonate far beyond the ice, engaging individuals with current scientific research in ways that may inspire them to carry that advocacy forward.
